The Longhorn Solar Corps successfully competed in the 2010 Hunt-Winston Solar Challenge. The solar challenge required students to build and drive a solar powered car from the Texas Motor Speedway to Boulder, Colorado.
The WTW students who participated in the eight day challenge to Boulder were, Alex Madere, Robert Malone, Brent Massey, Quinn Montgomery, and Alberto Mercado.
Teams from Houston Mississippi, Plantation Florida, Ridgeway Colorado, Round Rock Texas, Trophy Club Texas, Decatur Mississippi, Walnut California, Choctow Mississippi, Mendota Heights Minnesota, Newburgh New York, and Dallas participated in this summer's solar challenge.
The team received two awards. They received the Guntis Terauds Award, which is presented to the solar car team displaying the highest level of courage in the face of engineering obstacles. Alex Madere received the Order of the Solar Cell, which is presented to those extremely special people who believe in high school solar car racing, and the great students who make it happen.
